Biography

Deepak Pillai is a Consultant Nephrologist at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi. His medical practice philosophy is based on the belief that there is no higher profession than a physician and that serving the patient is synonymous with serving the ultimate. His practice philosophy is to use evidence-based medicine in all aspects of renal care, including kidney transplantation, renal replacement therapy, clinical nephrology, and critical care nephrology. Dr. Deepak Pillai has over 14 years of experience in Nephrology. He earned his MBBS from the University of Kerala in 1993, followed by an MD (Internal Medicine) from the University of Kerala in 2000 and a DM (Nephrology) from the University of Calicut in Kerala in 2005. In 2011, he was awarded a Fellowship in Adult Nephrology (FICN) by the University of Toronto in Canada. Dr. Deepak Pillai previously worked as a Consultant in Nephrology and Transplantation at Moulana Hospital in Perinthalmanna, India. He then relocated to Kuwait, where he worked as a Senior Registrar, Renal Transplantation, at the Hamed Al Essa kidney transplant center until 2011. After a brief stint in Kuwait, he worked as a Consultant Nephrologist at Cosmopolitan Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India, until 2014. Dr. Deepak Pillai previously worked as a Consultant – Nephrology at NMC hospitals in Abu Dhabi and Khalifa City. Dr. Deepak Pillai also taught for over a year as a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram, India. His areas of expertise and services include the following,

  • Management of anemia, abnormalities of bone metabolism, hypertension, and planning of renal replacement therapy
  • Management of patients on hemodialysis continuous renal replacement therapy for the treatment of acute kidney injury in the Intensive care unit
